Description
After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans were relocated to internment camps administered by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and the U.S. Department of Justice. The Crystal City facility in Texas was the largest one of these camps, with more than 3,300 residents at its peak in 1945. Although the U.S. government stressed that the detained Japanese Americans were well cared for, thousands of people lost their jobs and their homes, and had to suffer disruption and isolation in their otherwise normal lives.
